Trees & Palms

Trees (including palms) are the "backbones" of a room’s interior and serve as a primary focal point. We consider as "trees" those with a height of 5 ft and above.

Here are some main factors to consider when selecting trees for the room:

  • The “theme” of the room/house (e.g., traditional, contemporary, minimalist, etc). This will generally establish the category of tree(s) to consider.
  • Location of the tree in the room. This will also determine whether the tree can be "three-sided" (e.g., if it will be placed against a wall or in a corner, where it would be viewed from the front and sides) or needs to be "all-around" (e.g., if it will be viewed from all angles).
  • Foliage type (including leaf/frond size and shape).
  • Foliage color. The foliage color typically should not be used as a focal point, but rather should subtlety coordinate with and complement other colors in the room (fabrics, wall colors, artwork, etc.).
  • Tree "shape" (e.g., "vase," rounded, columnar/"tower," upright, "weeping," spiral, topiary, etc.).
  • Trunk style (e.g., forked, braided, upright, etc.).
  • Height. Typically the tree should finish at a height of 1'-2' below a typical ceiling height of say 9'. For very tall ceilings (e.g., 20'), trees in the 10'-14' height range could be used. Care should also be taken so that the tree does not finish at a height which is the same as any nearby architectural feature(s) (e.g., tops of windows, doors, soffits, ledges, mantles, etc.). Note: The finished height of a tree can be increased somewhat by raising the tree in its container or by using a raised container such as an urn, if appropriate.
  • Width available for the tree.
  • Fullness or sparseness of foliage desirable.
  • What other trees and plants (if any) are in the same room, or that can be visually connected if in another room? The tree should be complementary and "work with" its "neighbors."

We proudly custom-make most of our own silk trees-many handcrafted on a variety of natural wood trunks. We believe that you will be stunned by the selection of various tree types and heights and the realistic look and feel of the foliages. Because we make our own products, we can "customize" a tree to meet any of the design considerations listed above.

Each tree or palm is provided cast in plaster in a non-decorative container (typically heavy paper mache), suitable for use in the decorative container of your choice.

  • Cypress (typically spiral)
  • Bayberry (typically topiary)
  • Rosemary (typically spiral)
  • Boxwood

4. Bamboos (typical heights range from 6 ft. to 12+ ft.):

  • Narrow Trunk (natural, black and green trunks)
  • Giant Trunk (natural, black and green trunks)
  • Black Bamboo Aralia
  • Japanese Bamboo

5. Tropical Leaf Foliages (typical heights range from 5 ft. to 12+ ft.—some of these foliages can also be used in non-tropical" settings):

  • Fiddle Leaf Fig
  • Schefflera
  • Rubber Tree
  • Yucca (with and without flowers)
  • Ficus Fig
  • Banana

Note that "under-plantings" (e.g., ivy) can be used, if desired, under most trees. This can add "bulk" to the base and soften the lines of the tree container. In certain cases, some color can also be used in the under-planting. The color and shade of any greenery used for under-planting must be compatible with the foliage color of the tree.

We encourage you to visit our showroom to see firsthand many of the trees and styles listed and shown above!
